Are Costco Disney World Tickets Worth It?

Disney World is known as The Most Magical Place on Earth. However, there is one thing that’s not very magical about it. To put it frankly, it is very costly to visit Walt Disney World. The price of tickets, hotel stays, food, merchandise, and experiences make it a very expensive vacation. Unfortunately, this reason alone is why so many people don’t ever get to experience this magical place.

Luckily, there are ways to save on Disney World vacations. Disney offers many promotions throughout the year that allows Guests to save money on things such as tickets, hotel stays, and even dining. However, oftentimes, Disney’s promotions only apply to certain Guests. Sometimes you have to be a Florida resident or member of the U.S. Military in order to take advantage of the savings. Other times you have to travel or visit within certain dates or days of the week. Unfortunately, these restrictions don’t always make it possible for everyone to save.

Because of this, Guests often look for other ways to save. Many turn to warehouse stores or wholesale stores such as Costco in order to save a few bucks. While Costco does have great discounts on many items such as groceries and household products, do they really have ways to save on trips to Disney World?

While specifically looking at ticket prices, I’m going to inform you of what Costco has to offer, how it compares to Disney’s prices, and if there are better options available. As someone who has been lucky enough to visit Disney World on many occasions, I’d love the opportunity to help others get the chance to visit as well!

Costco – What is it?

For those who aren't familiar, Costco Wholesale is a warehouse store that provides many different products and services at a discounted rate to their members. Costco Members have access to low-priced, high-quality items such as groceries, electronics, household items, clothing, and more. Within their stores, they also have Optical, Pharmacy, and Photo departments. However their services spread far beyond that!

The available services that Costco offers fall within the categories of Insurance, Home, Auto, Home Improvement, Business, and Travel. Their travel services are what we’re going to look into today. Let’s see what Disney World savings Costco has to offer!

Disney World Tickets

Ticket Types

Disney World has four different ticket types available: 1 Park Per Day, Water Park and Sports, Park Hopper, and Park Hopper Plus. All four of these tickets provide Guests with different options and experiences. Here is what each ticket has to offer.

• 1 Park Per Day – With a 1 Park Per Day Ticket, Guests can visit one theme park in a single day.
• Water Park and Sports – With a Water Park and Sports Ticket, Guests can visit one theme park in a single day as well as one additional Walt Disney World location. The location options that are available to visit are:
  • A Walt Disney World Water Park (Either Disney’s Blizzard Beach or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Whichever one is open at the time of your visit.)
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
  • Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course
  • FootGolf at Disney’s Oak Trail
  • Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course (One round; Prior to 4pm)
  • Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course (One round; Prior to 4pm)
• Park Hopper – With a Park Hopper Ticket, Guests can visit multiple theme parks within a single day.
• Park Hopper Plus – With a Park Hopper Plus Ticket, Guests can visit multiple theme parks within a single day as well as one additional Walt Disney World location. The location options that are available to visit are:
  • A Walt Disney World Water Park (Either Disney’s Blizzard Beach or Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. Whichever one is open at the time of your visit.)

Ticket Prices

The price of Disney World tickets varies depending on the date. Tickets are available in increments from a Single Day Ticket to a 10-Day Ticket. On Disney World’s Ticket Calendar, we can see that the month with the lowest ticket prices in 2024 is usually August.

For a Single Day – 1 Park Per Day Ticket, the prices will also vary depending on which park you plan to visit that day. Generally, Animal Kingdom has the lowest admission price, followed by EPCOT, then Hollywood Studios, leaving Magic Kingdom with the highest price of admission.

When it comes to traveling with Costco, the first thing to note is that like their other merchandise and services, you need to be a Costco Member in order to purchase through them and take advantage of their prices. Currently, there are two different types of Costco memberships: Gold Star Member and Executive Member.

Costco Disney World Ticket Savings

So how much can Costco save you on Disney World tickets? The fact is, Costco doesn’t actually offer any savings on Disney World tickets. Costco actually doesn’t sell Disney World theme park tickets at all. The only way you are able to secure Disney World tickets through Costco is to book your whole vacation package through them.

This can be frustrating for Guests for a number of reasons. One simple reason is that not everyone is looking for a vacation package. Many Guests are local and don’t need to stay at a hotel. Or, oftentimes, Guests decide to visit Disney World as just part of their vacation and are staying elsewhere. For this reason, sometimes Guests simply need or want tickets as opposed to a whole package. Costco not offering stand alone tickets isn’t very convenient. Plus, it certainly doesn’t help Guests save money if they’re only looking to purchase tickets. 

Another reason that this isn’t ideal is that Costco’s Disney World vacation packages aren’t generally discounted. On the rare occasion that they are, the criteria for the discount is usually strict and not flexible. Normally, Costco only offers discounts or perks for hotels that aren’t Walt Disney World Resort hotels. While this may seem appealing to some, you instantly lose the benefits of staying on Disney World property.

When you stay off property, you lose the benefit of:

• Extra Theme Park Time
  • Early Theme Park Entry – All Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel are able to enter the theme parks 30 minutes prior to the park opening to the general public.
  • Extended Evening Hours – Guests staying at Deluxe Disney Resort Hotels or Deluxe Villas are able to enjoy Extended Evening Hours at select Disney theme parks on select nights. (Continuing through 2025)
• Check-In Water Park Day (Starting in 2025)
  • Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel in 2025, will receive free admission to a Walt Disney World Water Park on their check-in day.
• Dining Plans
  • Two different Dining Plans are available to Guests who are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel. These Dining Plans provide peace of mind and convenience as the meals are already paid for the entirety of your stay.
• Disney Transportation
  • While Disney Transportation is free for everyone, Guests of Walt Disney World Resort hotels have direct transportation from their hotels to the theme parks as well as other locations such as Disney Springs and the water parks.

Costco Disney World Hotel Savings

Currently, Costco does have one vacation package available for Walt Disney Resort hotels. However, as I noted, this discount does have strict specifications. In order to take advantage of this offer, you must travel sometime between now and September 30, 2024. You must also stay for at least 5 nights or more. The tickets that are included in the package will automatically be a 5-Day Park Hopper Ticket. The only savings that you will receive are $200 for stays at Value or Moderate Resorts or $300 for stays at Deluxe Resorts or Deluxe Villas.

While you do get an instant savings of $200-$300, it’s not very beneficial considering the amount of nights you’re required to stay and the number of tickets you’re required to have. They also aren’t including one of the cheaper ticket options in this package. Essentially, they are putting together a more expensive vacation package and then giving you a little bit of money back.

That’s not what we’re looking for when we’re looking for Walt Disney World discounts. So where can you actually find savings on Disney World tickets and vacations? The answer is simple…Get Away Today!

• Extra Day Free – With this ticket, Guests can visit Disney World for 6 days while only paying the price of 5! This ticket is available as a Base Ticket, Water Park and Sports, Park Hopper, or Park Hopper Plus Ticket.
• Magic Ticket – The Magic Ticket is available as a discounted 3-Day or 4-Day Ticket.
