Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disneyland Halloween PartyDisneyland Halloween- Oogie Boogie Bash logo

Oogie Boogie Bash at California Adventure is the new Halloween party that replaced the previous Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland. Oogie Boogie Bash is a great Disneyland Halloween party as it features a special World of Color show, a dance party, rare character meet and greets, and spooky entertainment.

It has been confirmed that Oogie Boogie Bash WILL return for 2024! We don't have the official dates quite yet but will share them as soon as we have more information.

Oogie Boogie Bash Party Dates

All of the Oogie Boogie Bash 2024 info, prices, and hours are shared in our guide at the link.

You can see last season's information below for reference on buying tickets for this Halloween party at California Adventure. Here are last year's Oogie Boogie Bash details:

  • Select nights September 5 through October 31, 2023
  • Party 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • Disney California Adventure Park mix-in begins at 3:00 PM

Purchase Tickets

Entry to Disney California Adventure park before the party is included with an Oogie Boogie Bash ticket. The after-hours party has begun at 6 p.m. PT in previous years and given guests the opportunity to play in the park for three hours before the event starts. We will update this section as information is released for 2024.

All of the tickets to the Halloween Party must be purchased directly from Disneyland, as well as at the Disneyland Resort main gate and by phone at 714-781-4636. You definitely will want to purchase online rather than attempt to purchase by phone. There are no available discounts for Halloween party ticketed events. Online and mobile purchases are not available the day of the event and parking is not included in the ticket price. Children two years of age and under don't require a ticket.

In the past, this Oogie Boogie Bash has been a local favorite and always sells out quickly. Get your tickets ASAP so you don't miss out!

This is an important point for all guests visiting during September and October: If you don’t have a park hopper ticket then you will be forced to leave California Adventure early in the evening and have nowhere to go but back to your hotel or home. Disney will close California Adventure early for the party and force any non-party guests to exit at least an hour before the party begins. Make sure to get a park hopper ticket if you don't plan on attending the ticketed event so you can hop over to Disneyland when the party starts!

Disneyland Halloween Rides 2024Haunted Mansion Holiday at Disneyland Halloween

One of Disneyland's most popular attractions, the Haunted Mansion, receives a completely different theme for the Halloween and Christmas season. The Haunted Mansion turns into the Haunted Mansion Holiday which is essentially a Nightmare Before Christmas movie takeover of the attraction.

The attraction features the entire story of the characters from the film featuring Jack Skellington, Sally, Zero the Ghost dog, Oogie Boogie, and many of the minor characters from the film. I highly recommend you watch this movie before visiting if you haven't seen it before, the ride theme will make much more sense. But it's not necessary to be familiar with it! The theme of the ride is so good you don't need to be a super fan of the Nightmare Before Christmas. The story essentially can be boiled down to Jack, the Halloween King, decides that he is going to take over Christmas and the movie calls it “when two holidays collide.” So you can expect to see themes from both holidays in the ride but with a spooky twist. Haunted Mansion Holiday sticks around for the full holiday season so in fact Haunted Mansion runs this theme from September-early January.

Ghost Galaxy at Disneyland Halloween

Another popular attraction, Space Mountain, is transformed to Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy in honor of the Halloween season. This overlay transforms the space theme into one of a spooky ghost infested rollercoaster. It also has a different soundtrack with a more menacing music score. This overlay is fun for teens and adults but may be a bit scary for younger kids. Remember: Space Mountain is a roller coaster in the dark and when you add ghosts instead of space as the theme, it gets a bit scarier. Note, there hasn't been any announcement that Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy will return. We do not expect this overlay to return.

Disneyland Halloween at California Adventure

Some of the attractions in California Adventure also receive Halloween themes! In Cars Land, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree will become Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters will change into Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween.

The Cars Land Halloween themes for these rides are a bit more minor than you see for the overlays in Disneyland but they are still fun to experience. Essentially the music for the rides change to match a more spooky, yet kid friendly, Halloween tune. You will also see the rides (along with all of Cars Land!) decked out in Halloween decorations. Guardians After Dark Halloween Theme

Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission: Breakout! becomes Guardians of the Galaxy-Monsters After Dark which starts at 6 pm everyday. So if you want to ride the Halloween version of this attraction, plan on riding it after 6PM!

The Halloween version does not feature the same soundtrack as the regular version instead it focuses on the new mission of your car serving as bait to distract the monsters from eating Baby Groot. This version of Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission – Breakout! is a scarier version that places much of the ride in the dark. As a big fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission – Breakout! attraction, I always attempt to catch the classic version of the attraction in the morning and then again before it transforms into “Monster After Dark”.

Disneyland Halloween Characters

halloween at disneyland

Disneyland has announced that new character costumes are coming for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse for the Halloween season.

You can expect to see our favorite classic characters dressed up in their Disneyland Halloween best with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Pluto all wearing their Halloween costumes. You can also expect other special meet and greets like Jack Skellington and Sally over by Haunted Mansion Holiday which is usually the only time of the year you can meet them!

Villains are another popular Disneyland Halloween character appearance so you hope to spot popular favorites like Maleficient, Captain Hook, Cruella de Ville, and more wandering around the parks. You can also track the specific characters in the official Disneyland app.

You can also see many rare characters at the special Disneyland Halloween party Oogie Boogie Bash from all sorts of obscure Disney films and even video games like Kingdom Hearts!

In Disney California Adventure you'll find Mickey Mouse and the whole gang in vintage Halloween costumes on Buena Vista Street that are in keeping with the 1901 era that the area is themed to.

Disneyland Halloween Entertainment and DecorDisneyland Fireworks Halloween

One of the most beloved Disneyland Halloween entertainment options is the fireworks show Halloween Screams projection and special effects shows. Previously, guests had to have a Halloween party ticket to see this show at Disneyland. Since Oogie Boogie Bash replaced the Disneyland Halloween party, guests are now able to see this fireworks show without needing a party ticket! Fireworks are typically only added on weekends while during the week the show mainly relies on projections.

Coco Song at California Adventure

Over in California Adventure, you can find daytime entertainment like Plaza de la Familia in the Paradise Gardens Park. This celebration is inspired by Día de los Muertos including a show celebrating the film “Coco” with live entertainment, craft making, food, and merchandise. The Musical Celebration of Coco takes place several times a day when Miguel joins the storytellers of Plaza de la Familia and the Mariachi Divas.

Frightfully Fun Parade at Disneyland

And of course, the entertainment options at the Oogie Boogie Bash ticketed event includes the popular Frightfully Fun Parade featuring all your favorite villians and a Halloween themed World of Color nighttime spectacular.

Disneyland Halloween characters

When it comes to Disneyland Halloween decorations you can find huge pumpkins right at the entrance of Main Street, U.S.A. and Fall decor spread out through certain areas of the resort. In Frontierland, you can find decorations honoring Dia de Los Muertos, or day of the dead. In Frontierland you can also find the popular Halloween Tree dedicated to Ray Bradbury and his book with the same title. Ray Bradbury has an important place in Disney history because of his work on EPCOT, his friendship with Walt Disney, and insightful observations on Disneyland.

Skeltons in Frontierland

Ray Bradbury's writings on Disneyland are extremely prolific and a quote from his work even serves as the forward into my book on Disneyland Secrets.

Cars Land Halloween Decor

California Adventure's Halloween decorations are the most fabulous over in Cars Land as it celebrates “Haul-O-Ween” with Cars themed decorations everywhere. From “Fillmore’s Jack-Oil Lanterns and Flo’s Spider-Car to Witchy Miss Lizzie’s shop” each and every location will transform Radiator Springs into Radiator Screams.

halloween Disneyland treats

And of course, you can find a wide variety of Halloween themed treats in Disneyland, California Adventure and Downtown Disney! Many of the speciality candy shops will go all out with candied applies, cake pops, and more to celebrate Disneyland Halloween.
