In a world where the spotlight often shines brightest on the headline acts, it is easy for these rides to slip under the radar. However, thanks to the power of social media and the passionate community of Disney enthusiasts, we have unearthed a trove of hidden gems straight from the heart of the Happiest Place on Earth.

Delving into the comments of a Facebook poll where we asked fellow Disney fans to share their favorite underrated attractions, we were astounded by the wealth of recommendations pouring in. From nostalgic nods to hidden nooks, it is clear that Disneyland holds a wealth of delights awaiting exploration. So, buckle up and get ready to embark on an adventure that will take you off the beaten path and into the enchanting world of Disneyland's hidden gems of attractions, as per our readers!

Alice in Wonderland

Tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice and retrace her steps through Wonderland on the whimsical Alice in Wonderland ride! As my home resort is Walt Disney World, experiencing this particular ride firsthand during my visit to Disneyland a few years ago was a topsy-turvy delight!

As you journey through the labyrinthine corridors of Wonderland, you will find yourself immersed in the fantastical tale of Lewis Carroll's beloved characters. From the curious antics of the Mad Hatter to the mischievous grin of the Cheshire Cat, every twist and turn of this enchanting adventure is meticulously crafted to captivate and delight. Lisa Ring Parsons, a participant in our Facebook poll, expressed her fondness for the Alice in Wonderland ride, stating, “Love love love Alice in Wonderland.”

Moreover, what sets the Alice in Wonderland ride apart is its seamless blend of classic storytelling and cutting-edge technology. It reminds me of a more technologically advanced version of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Your colorful caterpillar-themed ride vehicle glides gracefully through the vibrant scenes plucked straight from the pages of Carroll's imagination. The dazzling array of audio-animatronic characters, video projections, and whimsical set pieces that bring Wonderland to life before your eyes will leave everyone in your party spellbound.

Furthermore, the magic of this ride extends beyond its visual spectacle. What makes this ride a hidden gem is the magic you see once the sun sets in Disneyland. Before entering my favorite scene, the Mad Tea Party/Unbirthday Celebration, the ride takes you for a stroll outside. During this little cruise outside, the Matterhorn stands tall in your view, and the magical fairy lights strung along the Mad Tea Party teacup ride twinkle in the distance. The view is enchanting, breathtaking, and the epitome of the perfect Disneyland feel.

Disneyland Railroad

All aboard one of Walt Disney's favorite masterpieces, the Disneyland Railroad! This classic attraction is not just a scenic photo backdrop or a mode of transportation; it is a charming adventure through space and time. The timeless steam locomotive offers guests a leisurely tour around the park with a dash of nostalgia and a whole lot of fun. While the railroad is not considered a “ride” per se, it is a classic part of the Disneyland experience that should not go unappreciated. Per Disneyland, the Disneyland Railroad will take you through “4 of America’s majestic rivers: the Mississippi, the Columbia, the Missouri, and the Rio Grande.”

Moreover, this 18-minute journey is the perfect way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the park while still soaking in all the sights and sounds. Whether you want to rest your feet for a bit or take a scenic ride with the family, this charming train has you covered.

However, it is not just about relaxation—the Disneyland Railroad also serves as a portal to adventure, whisking you away to different lands with each stop. It will get you from Main Street U.S.A. to New Orleans Square to Mickey's Toontown to Tomorrowland and back around. My favorite route is from Tomorrowland back to Main Street, where you go through a tunnel that takes you to the dioramas of the Grand Canyon and prehistoric-era dinosaurs!

Plus, let us not forget about the nostalgia factor. For many visitors, riding the Disneyland Railroad is like taking a trip back in time to the park's early days, when Walt Disney himself roamed the grounds. It is a chance to connect with the history and heritage of Disneyland in a way that is both meaningful and memorable.

Peter Pan's Flight

Venturing into the heart of Fantasyland, visitors are transported into the whimsical world of J.M. Barrie's classic tale. On this opening day attraction, guests will board their very own pirate ship. Said adventurers will embark on a journey through the starlit skies, soaring high above the rooftops of London and into the enchanting realm of Neverland. While the park's marquee attractions often steal the spotlight, this timeless ride remains a cherished secret among those seeking the magic of a Neverland adventure.

While this ride is a short two minutes and twenty seconds, it certainly should not be missed, especially if you have small children in tow. The fact that your pirate ship takes you flying over these sights instead of on a track makes it incredibly unique to the park. Admittedly, while I enjoy the “London” scene better in Walt Disney World, the rest of the effects of Peter Pan's Flight in Disneyland are far superior to that of Walt Disney World's version. It makes the ride worth every second.

According to feedback from our Facebook poll, John Kallman II shared his fondness for Peter Pan's Flight, expressing, “I always loved the Peter Pan ride, flying around above London at night. And the special song, You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!”

So, as you stroll through Fantasyland on your next visit, do not miss the chance to uncover this delightful treasure and immerse yourself in the enchantment of Peter Pan's Flight. Remember the timeless wisdom of the boy who never grew up: “To live will be an awfully big adventure.”

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Snugly tucked away in Critter Country, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh invites guests of all ages to embark on a delightful journey through the beloved stories of A.A. Milne's Hundred Acre Wood. Before you know it, you are climbing aboard a honey pot-shaped vehicle, eager to join Winnie the Pooh and his pals on their merry escapades.

The adventure begins as you meander through the pages of Pooh's storybook, where familiar scenes come to life in vibrant colors and enchanting detail. From bouncing alongside Tigger to floating through a trippy dreamlike haze with Heffalumps and Woozles, each moment is a testament to the timeless charm and playfulness of these cherished tales.

It is not just the enchanting scenery that makes The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh a hidden gem—it is the profound sense of joy and sentiment that permeates every aspect of the experience with its cheerful songs and endearing charm. Whether you are a lifelong fan of the Hundred Acre Wood or discovering its wonders for the first time, there is an undeniable magic in being transported to a world where friendship, imagination, and simple pleasures reign supreme.

When we inquired about the most underrated attraction at Disneyland, Kristen Smith Bowen excitedly shared with us, “Winnie the Pooh for sure! It’s so cute and fun and just a nice relaxing little ride with amazing colors and nostalgia. Sometimes at the end of the night when the park is closing they’ll let us go through like 2 or 3 more times.” If you are a fan of the willy-nilly silly old bear, this unassuming attraction should not be skipped.

Star Tours – The Adventures Continue

Among the intergalactic wonders of Tomorrowland, with its towering spires and futuristic marvels, lies an oft-overlooked treasure: Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. Amidst the bustling crowds and iconic attractions, this ride offers a thrilling 3-D journey through the vast expanses of the Star Wars universe with C-3PO and R2-D2 at the helm.

As you step into the queue, you are immediately immersed in the atmosphere of a bustling spaceport, with droids working about and starships ready for departure. Soon, you find yourself boarding a StarSpeeder 1000, ready to embark on an unforgettable adventure through a galaxy far, far away.

The excitement begins as you blast off into hyperspace, hurtling through star systems and encountering iconic characters and a multitude of locations from the beloved saga. Recently updated to include scenes from the latest Star Wars trilogy, you may narrowly escape Kylo Ren and have to navigate treacherous waters.

Each twist and turn keeps you on the edge of your seat, fully immersed in the pulse-pounding action. Calleen Jarvis, chiming in on our poll, shared her enthusiasm for Star Tours, explaining why it is her favorite underrated ride: “Star Tours! It’s a different ride every time!”

Mad Tea Party

If you are not tipsy before boarding The Mad Tea Party, you certainly will be after riding it! Often overshadowed by grander attractions, this kooky ride offers a silly spin through a world of vibrant colors and dizzying fun! Be prepared to celebrate your Merry Unbirthday in the craziest of fashions!

As you approach the attraction, a colorful canopy adorned with oversized teacups greets you, each uniquely decorated with vibrant patterns and designs. The surrounding area is filled with whimsical touches, from oversized teapots to fanciful topiaries, creating an immersive atmosphere straight out of Wonderland.

Upon entering the queue, the cheerful melodies of lively music are all-encompassing, adding to the anticipation of the spinning adventure ahead. Guests of all ages eagerly wait their turn to climb aboard one of the oversized teacups, each capable of accommodating several riders.

Once seated inside the teacup, the real fun begins! As the ride starts, the teacups spin around a central hub, controlled by a large wheel in the center of each cup. Guests have the option to spin their teacup faster or slower using the wheel, allowing for a customizable experience based on individual preferences. If spinning like a dreidel is not your cup of tea, go slow or leave the wheel alone entirely. If you want to scream with giddy glee, turn that wheel as fast as possible!

As the teacups spin faster and faster, riders are treated to a dizzying whirlwind of color and motion. The vibrant surroundings blur into a kaleidoscope of hues, creating a sensation of being whisked away into a magical tea party straight out of Wonderland. Laughter and squeals of delight fill the air as guests spin and twirl, thoroughly enjoying the fanciful adventure.

The Mad Tea Party offers a delightful escape into the fantastical world of the animated classic Alice in Wonderland. With its charming theme, cheerful atmosphere, and exhilarating spins, it is no wonder this beloved attraction was many of our reader's underrated cup of tea! Sara Barcus, one of the participants in our poll, enthusiastically shared her experience, “The Teacups! There is something extra special when riding them at night, with the tea lights above you glowing and the Matterhorn in the background… just pure fun.”

Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room

According to Emily Porter, one of our passionate poll participants, “The Tiki Room – nothing like enjoying a Dole Whip while hearing the birdies sing!”

Despite often being overlooked, Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room stands out as one of the most enjoyable and relaxing attractions in all of Disneyland! Emily and I are in complete harmony when it comes to the perfect combination of a Dole Whip and the Tiki Room. I often grab a refreshing Dole Whip float and savor every moment while listening to the birds sing words and the flowers croon in this magical attraction.

When stepping into the lush courtyard of the Enchanted Tiki Room, you will immediately be transported to a serene oasis filled with Polynesian charm. The vibrant colors of tropical flowers and the soothing sounds of island music set the stage for an unforgettable experience in the Pacific Islands.

Inside the attraction, guests are treated to a whimsical showcase of over 225 audio-animatronic birds, flowers, and tikis, all brought to life with Disney's trademark Imagineering magic. Jose and his friends put on a lively musical revue, complete with catchy tunes and witty banter sure to bring a smile to your face. The audio-animatronic technology of synchronizing movement with audio and visual effects in the Enchanted Tiki Room helped pave the way for other Disneyland rides like it's a small world, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Haunted Mansion.

Despite its charm and popularity among dedicated fans, the Enchanted Tiki Room remains somewhat of a diamond in the rough, often overlooked in favor of more well-known attractions in Adventureland. But for those who take the time to experience its tropical delights, it offers a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the park—a tranquil retreat where you can sit back, relax, and let your imagination take flight.

Storybook Land Canal Boats

When there is a ‘whale,' there's a way, and Disneyland's Storybook Land Canal Boats take that expression quite literally. The adventure begins with a fantastical journey through the gaping mouth of Monstro the Whale, setting the stage for an enchanting exploration through Disney stories—all in miniature form!

Guided by a knowledgeable narrator, the boat glides through the serene canal and fully immerses guests into the heart of classic Disney movies. Along the way, you will discover fascinating behind-the-scenes tidbits bound to add a magical touch to your experience.

Each meticulously crafted model in this miniature world boasts a scale of one inch to one foot. From majestic palaces to charming towns, every detail is lovingly hand-built, with many featuring special lighting and musical effects that transport you even further into the story.

However, here is the real insider scoop. Our savvy poll participants recommend experiencing the boat ride at night! After sundown, the villages glow and the fairy lights cast an overarching twinkle over the entire scene. It is a truly magical sight that will leave you spellbound!

Casey Jr. Circus Train

Step right up and climb aboard the Casey Jr. Circus Train for a whimsical journey around the magical miniature villages surrounding the Storybook Land Boat Canals! Hopping into one of Casey Jr.'s colorful train cars, you will be whisked away into the enchanting world of classic Disney animation.

What sets the Casey Jr. Circus Train apart is its delightful theming and meticulous attention to detail. Inspired by the train from the 1941 animated movie Dumbo, this ride features the train itself saying its trademark phrase, “I think I can,” as it conquers a big hill along the journey. Here is a fun fact: the sleigh-style cars were originally part of the park's merry-go-round, now King Arthur's Carrousel. These cars were repurposed from the carousel to create more space for horses, and ingeniously transformed into train cars.

As the train winds through miniature landscapes and bustling scenes, you will be treated to glimpses of beloved Disney characters and iconic scenes from classic animated films. Whether it is the charming village of Arendelle or the bustling city of Agrabah, every twist and turn brings a new adventure to discover.

Despite its adorable charm, the Casey Jr. Circus Train often flies under the radar. However, for those who take the time to experience its optimistic delights, it offers a peaceful journey with an aerial view of many of the sights from the Storybook Land Boat Canals—without the time commitment required for the canal boats.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

In a park known for its enchanting tales and happy endings, there is one ride that takes a slightly darker turn: Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. While it may not boast the same happy-ending fanfare as some of Disneyland's more celebrated attractions, this ride holds a special place in the hearts of those who dare to take the journey.

In our Facebook poll exploring Disneyland's most underrated rides, commenter Leah Steele offered a unique perspective: “Mr. Toad's Wild Ride… it's the only ride in the entire park that doesn't have a happy ending.” Indeed, this opening day attraction offers some truly distinctive things—one of those things being it is exclusive to Disneyland! To experience the thrills and chills of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, one must venture to California, making it a must-see for any Disney enthusiast.

Based on the animated Disney classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, this ride invites guests to embark on a wild adventure alongside the eccentric Mr. Toad himself. From the moment you step into your motorcar, you are swept away on a journey filled with twists, turns, TNT, and surprises.

What sets Mr. Toad's Wild Ride apart is its fearless embrace of the unconventional. As you barrel through chaotic scenes and encounter dynamite characters, you will find yourself immersed in a world where anything can happen—and often does! And yes, true to Leah's observation, the ride's conclusion may not be the happiest, but it is certainly one that leaves a lasting impression.

In conclusion, Disneyland is not just about the big thrills and popular attractions—it is also home to a myriad of gems waiting to be discovered. Thanks to the insights shared by our Facebook poll participants, we have uncovered some of these underrated treasures that often go unnoticed amidst the hecticness of the park.

From the trippy journey aboard Alice in Wonderland to the eerie and explosive world of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, these attractions offer a unique experience that captures the true essence of Disneyland magic. So, the next time you find yourself wandering the streets of the Happiest Place on Earth, do not hesitate to seek out these humble attractions and embark on a journey filled with nostalgia and delight.
