Disneyland 2022 Refurbishments and Reopening Dates

Disneyland's daily calendar will list any rides or experiences that are currently be refurbished so it's a good idea to check the calendar as it gets closer to the day of your trip.

Mickey's Toontown Now Closed Until 2023

Mickey's Toontown is closed through early 2023 for a reimagining and for the completion of the new attraction Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway. Currently all attractions inside Mickey's Toontown are closed during this Disneyland refurbishment such as Mickey's House, Minnie's House, Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin, Goofy's Playhouse, Gadget's Go Coaster and Donald's Boat. Sadly, Chip ’n’ Dale Treehouse will not be returning when Toontown reopens.

There is no official repening date as of yet, only that Toontown will reopen in 2023. We will find out more details as the date gets closer but it is something to be aware of on your upcoming visit especially if you have small children. Fantasyland is a great place to take smaller kids and Pixar Pier in California Adventure also offers options for little ones.

Below you can find a list of announced refurbishments for attractions at Disneyland Park:

  • Tarzan's Treehouse- No Reopening Date

Disneyland Entertainment Closures

  • Magic Happens Parade – Spring 2023 as part of the Disney100 Celebration at Disneyland!
  • Mickey and the Magical Map – No Return Date
    • There's a good chance this show will not return as the space is now occupied with the Tale of the Lion King in Fantasyland.

California Adventure Ride Refurbishments

Below you can find a list of announced refurbishments for attractions at California Adventure:

  • Currently none!

California Adventure Entertainment Closures

  • Frozen: Live at the Hyperion – No Return Date
    • There's a good chance this show will not return based on cast member rumors that the entertainment was let go for this popular performance. Nothing has been confirmed by Disney either way.
  • Paint the Night Parade – No Return Date
    • This night parade hasn't run at California Adventure in a few years but due to its popularity it is likely to return at some point.

Seasonal Refurbishments

Seasonal refurbishments are common at Disneyland due to the seasonal overlays a Disneyland because of both Halloween and Christmas for it's a small world (it's a small world Holiday) and the Haunted Mansion (Haunted Mansion Holiday.) To get ready for these lengthy refurbishments these rides need to close to put up the decor and then close again after the season to take it down. Here is a rough estimate of these ride closures along with other potential closures for other holiday overlays:

  • Haunted Mansion
    • Mid-August until first week of September
      • Opens by the start of the Halloween season
    • Mid-January until end of January
      • Usually only takes a week to remove the overlay
  • it's a small world
    • Mid-October until first week of December
      • Opens by the start of the Holiday season
    • Mid-January until end of January
      • Usually only takes a week to remove the overlay
  • Splash Mountain & Grizzly River Run
    • The best time to refurbish a water ride is in the winter so it's common to see Splash Mountain and/or Grizzly River Run close after the holiday season and remain closed until the weather begins to warm up in April or May. But the water rides do not close every year but if a refurbishment is needed, it will happen in the winter.

When Will Splash Mountain Close?splash mountain princess and the frog

Tiana's Bayou Adventure, the Splash Mountain retheme to Princess and the Frog, is opening in late 2024. There has been no official announcement has of yet for when Splash Mountain will officially close for its retheme and refurbishment.

Anything beyond an official announcement is purely speculation. However, since Splash Mountain often receives a refurbishment over the winter months, it would not be unexpected to see Splash Mountain close after the holiday season ends in 2022 and work begin in January 2023.

I imagine we'll know more from Disney soon!
