Disneyland is experimenting with allowing guests to send their on-ride photo to their smart device. This new system is being tested at California Screamin' in Disney California Adventure and Splash Mountain in Disneyland.
I first saw the new product after I rode California Screamin' on Monday morning. Multiple area managers were crowded around the regular front line Cast Members who were using iPads to enter guests phone number and send out the photos.
The cost of the service is $4.99, but message and data rates apply when sending the photo to your mobile device.
The test began on this Monday, August 18 and runs through August 30th.
My Opinion on This
While I had a little bit of sticker shock when I first heard the price. My opinion is that this could be a useful system, because it will allow you to have a digital copy and make as many copies as you would like of the photo that you purchased.
In the age of Instagram and live tweeting. This service could appeal to those Disneyland park guests who want to share their photo instantly.
For someone who purchases their on ride photos, this could be a great deal. Is this me? No. I usually stick to making funny faces at the cameras and laughing at myself on the way out.
