Disney World Roller Coasters Ranked Worst to Best 2023

Walt Disney World is filled with rides suited for all guests, from small children to thrill-seeking adults! For the more adventurous guests or those who want to challenge themselves to try something new, Walt Disney World rollercoasters are for you. We rank the best Disney World roller coasters from worst to best.

In this guide, we will break down Disney World rollercoasters into 3 different categories—safe for kids, medium-intensity, and thrill-seeker coasters. Coasters that are safe for kids are ones that are not as intense, with smaller drops and lower speeds, perfect for guests of all ages! Medium-intensity coasters mix a bit of thrill and comfort for guests who do not want to challenge themselves with a thrilling ride but still want some of that adrenaline. Finally, thrill-seeker coasters will excite you with their intensity!

Some coasters may fall under multiple categories or vary in categorization depending on who is riding and their own abilities. Remember that these are all subjective, so don't limit yourself!

The Barnstormer—Magic Kingdom

Coming in at a total of 1 1/2 minutes for ride length, The Barnstormer at Magic Kingdom is a safe and great ride for kids. Take a ride with Goofy as the “Great Goofini” on his homemade stunt airplane on a wooden track! This is a quick ride but still allows you to take in some of the sights of Storybook Circus. With small drops and slight twists and turns, The Barnstormer is perfect for kids and adults who want to try out a mild Disney rollercoaster!

Height Requirement: 35 inches (89 cm)

Top Speed: 25 mph

Good for: preschoolers, kids

Includes: small drops, jerky motions, loud sounds

Space Mountain—Magic Kingdom

Blast off as you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of intergalactic space travel on this ride! Watch as meteorites and comets soar past you while you zip through space.

Don't be fooled by its top speed only being 25 mph—Space Mountain is still as equally thrilling as some of the other faster attractions on this list. With drops, twists and turns, and dark setting, I would say that Space Mountain is a medium-intensity coaster or good for thrill-seekers.

Height Requirement: 44 inches (112 cm)

Top Speed: 25 MPH

Good for: kids, tweens, teens, adults

Includes: Big drops, darkness, jerky motions

Big Thunder Mountain—Magic Kingdom

Big Thunder Mountain is one of my favorite rides at Disney World! The rock work and theming make it one of the most detailed rides on Disney World Property. Go through abandoned mine shafts, hear the screeching of bats, and dodge exploding dynamite on this ride. This would be categorized under medium-intensity coaster–it is filled with jerky twists and turns without the intensity of larger coasters! This iconic ride will have families giggling the entire time. They don't call it “the wildest ride in the wilderness” for nothing!

Height Requirement: 40 inches (102 cm)

Top Speed: 35 MPH

Good for: kids, tweens, teens, adults

Includes: small drops, jerky motions, loud sounds

Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster—Hollywood Studios

Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster is the only ride on Disney World property that has inversions. With two inversions and a 0-57 mph launch in 2.8 seconds, this ride is definitely recommended for thrill-seekers.

After their recording session, Aerosmith invites you to join them for the race through Hollywood to their concert. Speed past iconic Hollywood sights such as the Hollywood sign and Roxy Theater! With Aerosmith's discography playing while you travel in a stretch limousine, this ride is filled with excitement and action-packed for the biggest adrenaline lovers amongst us!

Height Requirement: 48 inches (122 cm)

Top speed: 57 MPH

Good for:  tweens, teens, adults

Includes: 0-57 MPH launch, inversions, big Drops, dark, loud

Slinky Dog Dash—Hollywood Studios

Take a trip to Andy's backyard with Slinky Dog Dash! Andy has created this rollercoaster to take his friends around his backyard. This smooth and fun coaster is categorized as safe for kids or a medium-intensity coaster. With small drops and decent motion, this is a good coaster to challenge yourself if you are fearful of the other coasters at Disney! Geared towards kids and families, this 2 minute ride will have the whole family laughing and provide you with the sights and sounds of Toy Story Land!

Height Requirement: 38 inches (97 cm)

Top speed: 40 MPH

Good for: kids, tweens, teens, and adults

Includes: small drops

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train—Magic Kingdom

Go into the mines and experience the beauty of the glistening gems with the dwarfs and even encounter Snow White and the Evil Queen! This popular ride at Magic Kingdom is categorized as safe for kids or a medium-intensity coaster. With small drops, twists and turns, and smooth motion, this is an easy and fun ride for families who enjoy small thrills. This ride often has a very busy wait time, so make sure to get Genie+ to experience it without the long line! If you do wait in line, there are some interactive elements throughout the queue that allow guests to stay entertained while they wait.

Height Requirement: 38 inches (97 cm)

Top Speed: 34 MPH

Disney's recommended audience: kids, tweens, teens, and adults

Includes: small drops

Expedition Everest—Animal Kingdom

As one of the more intense rides at Disney World, Expedition Everest is a great choice for thrill seekers. Go explore Mount Everest and come face to face with the mythic Yeti.

With its big drops, backward motion, and dark elements, this ride is definitely one of the more thrilling ones on property. Make sure to take in the beautiful scenery and details that the Imagineers put into this ride and queue! The queue takes place in the Tibetan Village and takes you through a Yeti Shrine and “Yeti Museum” as a foreshadowing of what to expect during the ride itself. I always stop and marvel at the amazing work of my favorite Imagineer Joe Rhode in the queue, but do not underestimate the thrill of the ride itself!

Height Requirement: 44 inches (112 cm)

Top Speed: 50 MPH

Good for: tweens, teens, adults

Includes: big drops, darkness, loud sounds

Tron Lightcycle Power Run—Magic Kingdom

Enter the grid and join Team Blue as you zip through the 8 energy gates to secure your team's win. Disney World's newest coaster Tron Lightcycle Power Run is one that I would recommend to thrill-seekers. Much like Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster, there is a 0-60 MPH launch in the beginning, then it has smooth twists and turns for the rest of the ride.

Though the launch may be intimidating, this ride is extremely short. I would recommend this coaster to guests who may be fearful of Rock ‘n' Rollercoaster but want to experience what a launch similar would feel like. The theming based on the iconic movie ‘Tron,” including retro-futuristic elements and the Tron soundtrack, helps create the futuristic atmosphere. This ride also operates currently using Virtual Queue and Individual Lightning Lane, which you can read more about in our guide to Tron Lightcycle Power Run.

Height Requirement: 48 inches (122 cm)

Top Speed: 60 MPH

Good for: tweens, teens, adults

Includes: 0-60 MPH launch, dark, big drops

Best Disney World Roller Coaster Is? Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind—EPCOT

One of the newer rides on this list, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is definitely geared towards thrill seekers. With 360-degree rotations and backwards motions (all in the dark), this ride is definitely one of a kind. This is by far the best roller coaster at Disney World!

In the queue, tour the Xandarian exhibition and learn more about the planet of Xandar and its culture. Then join the Guardians of the Galaxy on a wild mission through space! It's also the first ever Disney rollercoaster to feature a reverse launch.

I would recommend this ride to anyone who enjoys Space Mountain and wants a bigger thrill. If you are prone to motion sickness, be wary about this attraction, as its rotation and movement may be too intense for some riders. There are 6 songs that can play when you ride, so make sure to pay attention and see which one you get. This ride is currently operating with a Virtual Queue and Individual Lightning Lane, so make sure to read up on its Virtual Queue and how to get a boarding group.

Height Requirement: 42 inches (107 cm)

Top Speed: 60 MPh

Good for: tweens, teens, adults

Includes: darkness, spinning 360 degrees
