There are several exciting new possibilities in store for Disneyland's future as Disneyland has recently received the final vote approving the Disneyland Forward initiative.
The DisneylandForward initiative is centered around the rezoning of the land that Disneyland currently owns to allow for future expansion that could introduce new theme park experiences, hotels, shopping and dining experiences, and more, guaranteeing that Disney will spend at least $1.9 billion in the next decade.
Following this major news, Iger recently shared some commentary at MoffettNathanson's Media, Internet & Communications Conference that gives us a glimpse at what we can expect for the resort's future expansion!
Disneyland Expansion Following DisneylandForward Approval
At the conference, Iger gave us an indication of the scale of this Disneyland expansion—he shared that this will be “the biggest expansion of Disneyland really since we opened California Adventure in 2001, so, in over two decades.”
Iger also admitted Disney hasn't been very specific about what the expansion will entail except for the introduction of an Avatar experience to the resort. He commented on how this is “an extremely successful land in Orlando,” so it makes sense that Disney would be interested in replicating the success of it in Anaheim. Now that Avatar has been confirmed to be a focus for the first part of the DisneylandForward expansion, we're looking forward to hearing some more solid details on it soon. Disney recently released concept artwork for the Avatar experience at Disneyland, which you can see below.

There is potential for some DisneylandForward additions to appear that are inspired by some of the incredible new expansions that are debuting in parks overseas, like the stunning Fantasy Springs in Tokyo DisneySea, which includes a Tangled area, and World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland.

Iger talking about “turbocharging” the parks:
