I am a Disney World annual passholder, Disney Vacation Club member, and live about an hour away from the parks. I visit Disney World multiple times per month and often enjoy alcoholic beverages throughout Disney World property. This article is based on my experience and knowledge of the changes in the alcohol Magic Kingdom policy and service.
There have always been debates on the general accessibility of alcoholic drinks at Walt Disney World, particularly Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney was quoted in the 1950s stating Disneyland would have “No liquor, no beer, nothing. Because that brings in a rowdy element. That brings people that we don't want, and I feel they don't need it.”
Therefore, until recently, Disneyland never served alcohol with the exception of Club 33 patrons. When Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, Roy Disney upheld the same standards, claiming the park would be alcohol-free. This article will discuss an overview of historical alcohol policies, recent changes, and current ways to order alcohol at Magic Kingdom.
In this article:
Disneyland and Magic Kingdom Alcohol Policy Changes
Despite Walt and Roy Disney's wishes, the Magic Kingdom began to offer alcoholic drinks with the opening of the Be Our Guest Restaurant in 2012. Between 2016 and 2018, the remaining seven table service restaurants in Magic Kingdom also started to serve alcohol. In 2019, Disneyland Resort began offering alcohol with the opening of Oga's Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. In the late summer of 2023, four other table service restaurants also began to serve alcohol in Disneyland.
While all other theme parks in both Disney World as well as Disney California Adventure Park previously sold alcohol, many believed Magic Kingdom and Disneyland would remain “dry.” Although this no longer remains the case, it is still significantly more difficult to order alcohol at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland due to several restrictions that do not exist at the other Disney parks. None of the parks at Disneyland or Disney World allow outside alcoholic beverages to be brought inside the parks, however, alcohol is now available for purchase at each Disney park.

Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party
The Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Party is a separately ticketed event that occurs during the Happily Ever After fireworks show. Guests can check in one hour before the show begins and receive various desserts, cheese, and refreshing beverages, including an assortment of beer and wine for guests 21 and over. The dessert party also provides reserved seating to watch the fireworks on Tomorrowland Terrace which is a nice perk, especially after a long day on your feet.
The price for this event varies by date, and ranges between $119 to $129 for guests ages 10 and up, and $75 for children between 3 and 9 years old. Theme park admission is required to attend the event and does not include the separate cost of the dessert party. A reservation is also required to enjoy this event. If you are interested in purchasing tickets for the fireworks dessert party, check available reservations and prices here.
Pros and Cons of Alcohol Consumption at Magic Kingdom
There are several and pros and cons to the availability of alcohol at Magic Kingdom. While I personally drink alcohol frequently at the parks, it happens less often at Magic Kingdom due to the inconvenience, price, and overall lack of options. However, I do appreciate the option to order a beer or glass of wine at dinner, especially when I am celebrating a friend's birthday or special event.
Pros
- All of Magic Kingdom's table service restaurants offer a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and are offered at every meal they are open, allowing guests to find something they would likely enjoy.
- It is less likely guests will be belligerently intoxicated while wandering the park, as they must be seated at a restaurant in order to drink alcohol.
- The Disney Dining Plan offers an alcoholic drink with each meal for guests 21 and over, therefore guests using this plan can take advantage of this perk while at Magic Kingdom.
Cons
- Alcohol is more difficult to purchase at Magic Kingdom compared to all the other parks and can be inconvenient to order. Table service restaurants usually require a reservation, are time-consuming, and can be expensive. Most guests, including myself, prefer the option to walk around and enjoy the parks with a beverage in hand instead of having to spend time at a restaurant.
- Many disagree with Magic Kingdom and Disneyland going against Walt Disney's wishes to serve alcohol in the parks, especially given even the slightest chance of inebriated guests at a park with thousands of children.
- The quality and price of the alcohol at Magic Kingdom seem less valuable compared to other parks, especially when combined with the cost of a table service meal. As seen throughout the list above, the drinks available are not as unique when compared to drinks at the other theme parks. Personally, I rarely consider alcoholic drinks when visiting Magic Kingdom as they are typically higher in price and can be found at other restaurants, even outside of Disney World.
Other Alcohol Availability Near Magic Kingdom
If you are in the Magic Kingdom area looking for a way to drink alcohol without eating at a restaurant, there are several great bars with fun atmospheres and unique drinks you can easily visit via walking, monorail, or boat. It should be noted these lounges do not accept the Disney Dining Plan.
Polynesian Village Resort
- Trader Sam's: Trader Sam's is my absolute favorite bar on Disney property. It is a tiki bar atmosphere originally built in Disneyland and inspired by the Enchanted Tiki Room. This bar is open between 3PM and 11PM and even allows underage guests until 8PM. They offer many unique alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, some of which include fun interactions with cast members when served. The only downside of this very small yet popular bar is there is typically a long wait list. However, if you arrive before opening, around 30 minutes or earlier, you can put your name on a waitlist to be called back. There is also outside seating at Trader Sam's Tiki Terrace Restaurant which does not necessarily provide the same fun atmosphere but offers the same cocktails.
Contemporary Resort
- Outer Rim: Another lounge that is just a 10 minute walk or short monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom is the Outer Rim lounge located at the Contemporary Resort. This lounge is open between 4PM and 11PM offers beautiful views of Bay Lake and offers unique drinks such as a Blue “Glow-tini.”
Grand Floridian Resort
Enchanted Rose: This recently reimagined Beauty and the Beast-inspired lounge is located on the second floor of the Grand Floridian's beautiful main lobby. This lounge is open from 3:30PM to 11PM and offers dozens of unique cocktails as well as snacks and appetizers. While there is no dress code required, I would recommend this lounge for those wanting a fancy and upscale environment.
Wilderness Lodge
- Territory Lounge: This “rustic” bar is open between 4PM and 10PM at the Wilderness Lodge which guests can travel to by boat to and from the Magic Kingdom. Although this is a bit more of a difficult transportation option, this bar offers snacks, small plates, desserts, and unique cocktails that can't be found at the Magic Kingdom.
Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
- Crockett's Tavern: Similar to the Territory Lounge, guests can travel to Fort Wilderness resort from the Magic Kingdom by boat. This tavern is open from 3PM to 10PM and offers a sit down lounge or a walk-up window for both food or drinks to go.
