A dragon was discovered above the Shafter’s Minter Field in Bakersfied California. Bakersfield is two hours from Glendale. Do you know what is in Glendale? Walt Disney Imagineering.
Disney wanted to keep this new dragon a secret so they drove two hours and even swore the airport officials to secrecy. But, Bakersfield Californian reports that restaurant manager Tammy Zaninovich posted pictures on Facebook after seeing the dragon. One of those pictures is the one you see above.
“It breathes fire and the mouth opens and closes,” Tammy Zaninovich tells Bakersfield Californian. “It’s pretty cool.”
It has been almost nine months since Disney announced the Avatar project and no other word has come. Except for some small references, Disney and James Cameron haven’t been talking about this upcoming land.
In the official word from Disney, they avoided the question.
“I can’t really tell you much. So sorry,” Disney spokeswoman Angela Bliss said Thursday, confirming only that what people around the airport saw (she never used the word “dragon”) was a project of Glendale-based Walt Disney Imagineering.
“We’re really always looking for new ways to expand the magic at Disney Parks,” Bliss said. “But we really don’t have any specific comments about what you’re asking me about.”
Disney will continue to test the project in the months to come, make sure to watch Disney Dose for more information on the subject.
Hello loyal readers and first time guests. I would like to thank you for continuing to read Disneydose.com as we sculpt and build our site. In honor of Epcot’s 30th Anniversary we have completely redesigned our site, making it more futuristic and easier to read.
Until we reach October, the month that Epcot opened, this is what Disney Dose will look like.
In honor of Epcot’s birthday we will do a live stream of us singing happy birthday, along with an interview with a surprise guest.
I know that this is all months away, but we are just so excited about the 30th Anniversary that we wanted to start celebrating. Keep on reading and have a magical day!
Reports from reviewers who have already seen Disney Pixar’s film Brave, tell us that the witch from the movie is not highly involved in the plot. The witch’s character and looks are modeled after Asian folklore, rather than the black pointed hat with a broom witch, from western culuture that most come to expect.
Similar to the witch in Snow White, she is a wrinkled old women who seems as if she couldn’t cause any harm. While she seems like she couldn’t cause any harm she adds a twist to the plot and a much needed injection of humor.
Disney has released a short video clip showing the witch in action. In my opinion the witch is hard to understand, but at the same time she is a much needed character in the cast of Brave.
Will you be seeing Brave when it comes out tomorrow? I hope that it is good. Come back and tell us what you think.
I bet you want to know how this happens. Watch the trailer farther down the page.
Nearly 12 years after the fun monsters of Monstropolis scared us for the first time they are back with the trailer for their next movie; Monsters University.
You see Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sullley grow up and learn to become good monsters as they go through Monster University.
As you will see in the trailer below, Mike and Sulley weren’t always friends, they used to be pranking enemies. Monsters University unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends
“Billy Crystal’s an amazing comedic actor,” remarked Dan Scanlon, Director, Disney•Pixar’s Monsters University. “He gave us so much fun material, we decided to cut four slightly different versions of the trailer. We are so happy to have him back as Mike!”
What do you think of the trailer? Will you be seeing the movie? I think that it looks amazing.
Disney has announced that Maleficent is scheduled to premiere on March 14, 2014 and began shooting last Wednesday June 13. Along with that statement they shared a photo of Angelina Jolie playing the starring character; Maleficent.
This is the untold story of Disney’s most beloved villain, Maleficent, from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” The film reveals the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse the baby, Aurora.
Directed by two-time Oscar®-winning production designer Robert Stromberg (“Avatar,” “Alice in Wonderland”), in his directorial debut, and produced by Joe Roth, “Maleficent” is written by Linda Woolverton (“The Lion King,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and executive produced by Angelina Jolie, Don Hahn, Matt Smith and Palak Patel.
Co-starring in the film are Sharlto Copley (“District 9”), Elle Fanning (“Super 8”), Sam Riley (“On the Road”), Imelda Staunton (“Vera Drake”), Miranda Richardson (“The Hours”), Juno Temple (“Atonement”) and Lesley Manville (“Secrets & Lies”).
Wednesday, June 13, 2012 was an important day in Cars history. The Cars section of Art of Animation opened and fans swarmed the Cozy Cone Motel, the pool, and around the characters. The atmosphere that morning was like a group of exhausted but excited college students finishing up a term paper or final exam. Throughout the day, tours were given as cast members continued to work on the tiny details. The Cars section of Art of Animation combines a sleepy motel, a character meet and greet, and all of the comforts and details of a Disney resort.
Since Art of Animation is a Value Plus resort, all of the buildings have indoor hallways which feature large pieces of artwork that varies from floor to floor and building to building. The hallways of the Cars section have orange cones for lights, highway signs for the room numbers, “checkered flag” tile, and orange checkered flag and wheel carpet. The suites has a main room, a bedroom, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette. The first item you see when you walk into the suite is the bed/table. The bed, which is quite comfortable, folds up into the wall and produces a table for eating and playing games. The living room area has a couch that reminds me of a backseat in an old 53 Chevy, a road map table, a kitchenette with a garage theme, and a orange cone light fixture. The bedroom has a bedspread from the Cozy Cone Motel, permeant Cars postcards, orange cone lights, a radiator fan for the main light, orange cone curtains, and orange cone carpet. Both bathrooms promise to get you Spiffy in a Jiffy with their Carwash theme. Some of the custom items like the orange cone lights and the shower curtain will be available for sale.
Cozy Cone Motel
The outside of the building places you on Route 66 in Radiator Springs with all of the characters from Cars and their accompanying buildings. Guests may stay in Tow Mater’s Towing & Salvage, Wheel Well Motel, and Luigi’s Della Tires. The small building called the Cozy Cone Motel hosts the laundry and bathrooms for the Cozy Cone pool. Sarge’s Surplus Hut is where the pumps are for the pool. The characters are spread out through Radiator Springs. Ramone sits low and prideful with his pearlescent paint job. You will also find Sally Carrera, Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson, Sheriff, Luigi, Guido, Sarge, and Fillmore. Fillmore has a myriad of bumper stickers for guests to enjoy as well as a license plate in honor of his voice, George Carlin. Radiator Springs is an ideal place to take pictures with the Cars characters and avoid the lines at Hollywood Studios.
If you are a cast member, there is a nice discount right now on rooms. If you are a guest, like me, the prices vary and the room choices seem to be limited to suites right now. If a suite is out of your price range, more rooms are opening up and a single room is much more affordable. However, you can squeeze two people into the bed in the front room, two little ones on the couch bed, and two in the bedroom, so that means six people could stay in the room. Splitting the suite cost with a group of friends at the newly opened Radiator Springs is something that should be considered. If you need to get away from your friends, the bedroom even has a door, so you can escape in another room.
Photos of the Cars section of Disney’s Art of Animation can be found at: www.bit.ly/Myq6TT.
The walls have been torn down around the second, and restored, Dumbo ride. The ride was not running tonight but I expect to see it running in the near future.
The massive circus tent looks like it is ready for visitors. Both Dumbo rides have queues that lead from the tent. I think that is where the interactive queue will be.
All of lights were lit up on both Dumbo rides, which provided a beautiful colorful area between the two rides and the tent. We will be checking on each trip to Storybook Circus to see when we are able to ride the original Dumbo again.
Casey Jr has come down the tracks and has arrived in Fantasyland. As soon as you get out of the Fantasyland train station, you are immersed into a wet ad wild circus. All of the animals spray, splash, and squirt water at the guests. It is difficult to not get wet. There are elephants, monkeys, giraffes, and a camel. Casey Jr builds up steam and then finally blows, spraying “steam” on anyone in the area.
If the goal is to make the kids completely soaked, it is a success. It will be a must stop during the upcoming hot summer months.
Car Masters Weekend, sponsored by Hess, provides a place for car lovers, young and old, to reminisce and drool over the beauties that are spread out through Downtown Disney Westside. There is something for everyone including a Meet and Greet with the Cars characters, Go-Karts, DJs, Disney video games, contests, and of course CARS!
Car Masters Weekend
This year, there were a myriad of cars there, from Roadsters, hot rods, Camaros (new and old), Malibus, two General Lees, a giant wagon, to a monster truck. Guests could vote on the cars in either the children’s or adult’s choice. Once the vote had been cast, guests were rewarded with scratch off tickets for prizes at both Disney and Hess and discount coupons for eateries in Downtown Disney.
Western Flyer Rocket
For the younger at heart guests, Disney had a selection of video games available to play on the Wii, Nintendo DS, and an iPad connected to a big screen TV. The Cars Meet and Greet is a popular spot, so plan to arrive there first thing in the morning. If you can’t attend the next Car Masters Weekend or the Cars Meet and Greet in Hollywood Studios, you can visit all of the Cars characters in the new section of Art of Animation.
Stephen Brisbois' 1968 Buick Riviera
A date has not been set for next year’s Car Masters Weekend. This is the second year that it has been held in Downtown Disney, so keep a look out for the date for next year.
It seems like every Disney website on the web already has pictures of Carsland posted, but none of them seem to have a really thorough look at the details in the land. That is what we will provide today.
Radiator Springs: Gateway to Ornament Valley Sign
The cool sign shown above sits at the entrance to the land, just as one of these signs would sit at the edge of a town. Look closer and see the changing population amount, knights of combustion, and the Loyal Order of the Lugnuts.
Farther down the street you see the famous HERE IT IS sign.
Above the doctor’s office in Radiator Springs, you can see this great sign. The wrench is a very cool addition, to “carify” even the smallest detail of Carsland.
Now here are some of the details from Radiator Springs Racers.
Above is the classic ride sign, that tells you all of the needed information. In this case the sign is for Radiator Springs Racers.
Above is the not so famous Radiator Spring. So the story goes Stanley, the towns founder discovered this spring and built Radiator Springs around it. If you want to see this spring for yourself take a ride on Radiator Springs Racers and take a jaunt through the queue.
Above is the menu for Flo’s V8 Cafe. It is really cool looking and evokes the feeling of a Juke box and old fashioned car.
What do you think of the details in Carsland? I love the look of Flo’s V8 and wish to eat there.
Here is a teaser for our next post about the neon lights in Carsland.
The best kept secret in Walt Disney World, Victoria and Albert’s, wins the AAA five star for the 13th year in a row. The team behind V and A’s success is Chef Scott Hunnel, Master Pastry Chef Erich Herbitschek, Maître d’Hôtel Israel Perez, and the entire restaurant team.
AAA rates over 28,000 restaurants around the US, but only 53 have received the coveted five star. Of those recipients, only 21 have received the award for more than 13 years.
“What makes Victoria & Albert’s exceptional is not only the incredible cuisine, but the entire dining experience,” said Kevin Myers, vice president of Walt Disney World Resort Operations. “From reservations, the very personal table-side service, sommeliers, chefs and pastry chefs…..the whole team is dedicated to delivering a memorable evening for each of our guests. We couldn’t be prouder of the entire team.”
“Earning the AAA Five-Diamond Award is like winning an Oscar,” said Victoria & Albert’s Chef Scott Hunnel. “To be one of 55 restaurants in all of North America to receive this prestigious award is such an honor. It confirms our philosophy that it takes passion and a synchronized team to deliver consistent, top-quality cuisine night after night!”
Sadly, I have only ever walked by Victoria and Albert’s when visiting the Grand Floridian, I hope to eat there in my upcoming visit to Disney World.

Disney World is the happiest place on earth rain or shine, but what should you do if a drizzle dampens your day? Do not fret, and do not let a little liquid spoil your magic, instead let the water whet your appetite for adventure! Here are 5 things to in a Disney drencher:
Go Undercover – There are lots of places around Disney World that are indoors, even many attractions. Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, It’s Tough to be a Bug, and The Living Seas are just a few attractions that are completely inside. There are many in each park. You can also grab some food and wait for the storm (or at least the heaviest showers) to pass. If it looks like it’s going to pour all day consider playing it up at Disney Quest in Downtown Disney.
Seize the Storm – The truth is that a rain storm is an optimal time to be in Disney World. It really cuts down on the lines. So grab your poncho and just go for it! This is the perfect time to ride all of the water rides – who cares about getting wet?! The lines will be shorter for a lot of your favorite attractions so think of the clouds as your friendly fast pass! You can even get some good photos. It would be the perfect opportunity to get a silly family picture playing in the rain. What better time to get a photo under the Singing in the Rain umbrella in the Streets of America at Hollywood Studios?
Do Something New – Now is the perfect time to try that thing that you’ve never bothered to do before. You can stop and smell the roses a little instead of rushing from attraction to attraction. For instance, on a regular day you may not bother to go see a movie, but it may be a treat to do just that at the AMC Downtown Disney on a dreary night. Try that attraction or exhibit that always looked a little too boring. Explore all the nooks of Disney that you have never uncovered. Why not check out that resort that you’ve always wanted to stay at? The ideas are limitless.
Rest & Relax – Nothing wears you out faster than long days playing in the sun. A gloomy day is a good excuse to catch some rest. Chill out in your room, or catch a massage at the closest spa. You may want to depart from the parks to head out for a bite to eat on the town or grab some supplies you need (snacks, sun block, ponchos?). Enjoy your resort and see all that it has to offer to help you relax. You can even take a dip in the pool if the weather is not severe.
Shop ’till You Drop (or at least the rain stops) – There are so many wonderful places to shop in Disney and sometimes in the hustling crowds we don’t take time to enjoy them. There is no better time to hunt for some special treasures! Not only is there a whole world of shopping pleasure in Downtown Disney, but each park has different little stores to discover. Don’t forget to shop at the little bakeries & other confectioneries to pick yourself up a treat!
Disney is not only fun on days that are dry! Every day at Disney can be magical. Most attractions and rides stay open during rainy weather as long as it is not dangerous – even the parades and fireworks! Don’t let a little drizzle ruin your next trip!
(Thank you to OnlyWDW for providing the cool picture at the top of the post.)
Ninety Minutes! That’s how long the line for Radiator Springs Racers, the main attraction for the brand new Cars Land area at the Disneyland Resort was during a preview day. A preview day, how is that possible you ask? I will tell you why it is possible. Radiator Springs Racers is the most amazing, advanced E-ticket attraction that Disney has built since Indiana Jones.
The attraction takes guests on an adventure through Radiator Springs where you interact with all of the characters from Pixar’s amazing film Cars. It combines the experience provided by a classic Fantasyland dark ride and a super speed roller coaster to create a hybrid attraction that is different than anything that you have ever seen.
To begin their journey, passengers take a scenic drive through through Ornament Valley past huge waterfalls and stunning vistas.
The first time that you experience one of the Audio-Animatronic versions of a car, you will be stunned. They are some of the most techonologically advanced pieces of equipment Disney has ever featured in one of their parks.
Take a tour of Radiator Springs at dusk as you get ready to race another carful of guests.
Next, you see Lighting McQueen and Sally and they turn to you and either direct you to Luigi’s Casa Della Tires or Ramone’s House of Body Art. If you head to Luigi’s Casa Della Tires then you pass through the shop and you car is outfitted with new tires. If your car goes into Ramone’s House of Body Art then your car is sprayed with a mister to simulate paint application. After your two possible detours, two cars meet and are greeted by Doc Hudson your pit crew captain (seen at the top of article). After a race countdown by Luigi and Guido, you race through the ornament valley reaching speeds higher than 40 miles per hour.
After your race, you finish your adventure in Tail Light Cavern, where Lighting McQueen and Mater have some words of advice for you before you depart.
While I am sure you loved reading about the entire ride, I bet that you would want to watch it even more. Here is a video of the entire ride through Radiator Springs Racers, just because you red all the way to here.
What do you think of the video? I can’t wait to ride this brand new attraction.
We are very luck to have a reader of Disneydose.com in the parks this weekend at the Club 33 and D23 Disney California Adventure preview. He will be sending us pictures this entire weekend, so make sure to check it out. We are the first fan site to have photos and video from inside the lands, because the regular media preview isn’t until this Thursday.
The first picture we received was of Elias and Company on Buena Vista Street. Look at the fine details and craftsmanship.
While we won’t have our own video of Radiator Springs Racers up until next weekend, here is a great POV on ride video.
We just recieved another picture from inside the Carthay Circle Theater Restaurant, as the first meals are being served.
Look at this great looking Grilled Angus Fillet served up at the Carthay Circle Restaurant.
Here is the centerpiece for Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. Mater’s Jukebox.
Here is one of the tractors that spins you on Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree.
Look at the Cozy Cone Inn at night. This is a great example of how beautiful Carsland will look at night. It looks so nice with it’s 100% refrigerated air. I want to stay the night there, whoops it looks like there is no vacancy.
Radiator Springs, a Happy Place! I agree and I can’t wait to see this mural in person. What about you?
One last shot of Cadillac Range to end the night. Sorry, I mean the “mountains that evoke the luxury car tailfins of yesteryear.”(That is the approved name for the mountain range, because Disney had a disagreement with the General Motors Lawyers).
What do you think of our update on Carsland and Buena Vista Street? Will you be going this summer?
We are back with more pictures from the heart of Disney California Adventure Park, Carsland. We have a video of Radiator Springs Racers at night and a photo to share with you.
And here is a picture from inside of Radiator Springs Racers.
We are back with some pictures of the soon to unveiled statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse titled “Storytellers.” Below is what the statue will look like and below this is the picture of the box and plaque around the statue.
It will be less than a week until this is unveiled.
Here are the plaques already surrounding the statue.
The plaque below reads:
“We are just getting started.”
The plaque below reads: “It was July 1923. I packed all of my worldly goods-a pair of trousers,a checkered coat, a lot of drawing materials and the last of the fairytale reels we had made- in a kind of frayed cardboard suitcase. And with that wonderful audacity of youth, I went to Hollywood, arriving there with forty dollars. It was a big day the day I got on that Santa Fe California Limited. I was free and happy!”
We are back to Carsland as we share the view from Flo’s.
Disney recently sent us an update on their project in Hong Kong Disneyland, Grizzly Gulch. Grizzly Gulch is a new themed area with a ride based on Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom and a story based on Grizzly River Run in Disney California Adventure. This new land will be the savior of Hong Kong Disneyland because it will add another attraction and experience to provide new experiences for guests.
The artwork that they provided is above and depicts the cool looking rock work that will be the focal point of this area.
Below is a video featuring Ali Rubinstein, Creative Director, Walt Disney Imagineering Hong Kong.
What do you think of the the video? Do you want to go to Grizzly Gulch? I think that it could be a very interesting ride experience.
During a special ceremony today held at Disney California Adventure the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop was officially opened. The new location – the first to open inside a theme park – features Ghirardelli’s world-famous hot fudge sundaes and decadent chocolate products, and represents another milestone in the expansion of Disney California Adventure. Even though this is the first Ghiradelli Soda Fountain to be inside of the parks, there is a Ghiradelli Soda Fountain in Disney World at Downtown Disney.
Above you can see a cast member at work and behind them the centerpiece for the shop, an animated mural of San Francisco.
This new shop will be located in the old Mission Tortilla Factory space and can be found in the Pacific Wharf area.
“We are excited to partner with the Disneyland Resort to open our Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop in Disney California Adventure,” said Martin Thompson, President and CEO of the Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. “Consumers associate our premium brand with high quality, delicious chocolate and now they will have the opportunity to enjoy both our intense, slow melting chocolate and our decadent ice cream treats inside the park. Our rich heritage began in California 160 years ago this year and opening this store in Disney California Adventure is a perfect way to celebrate.”
I am very excited about this new addition of the Ghiradelli Soda Fountain. While I was sad to see the Tortilla Factory go I am very happy to have some San Francisco flare inside of Disney California Adventure.
Disney has partnered with MSN to release the first trailer for Wreck-it Ralph, the movie about a video game villain. The story of Wreck-It Ralph is that he is a villain that desperately wants to be a hero. When meeting up with fellow villains at the Grand Central Power Grid he decides to become a hero and goes to explore other games. Below is the movie trailer and below that you can find Disney’s synopsis.
Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?
Disney has started their own video site called Disney Video. While they still have a video section on the main this new video area is much simpler to use and more user friendly. The videos are pre-selected trailers and promos, embedded videos from YouTube. Just like Youtube you can share videos by embedding them on your on website. No video is full length except for the occasional music video. I really like the new site and hope that Disney transfers all video content soon.
Below is the trailer from Brave as embedded from Disney Videos.
The Disney Aulani not only has amazing details inside, like their restaurants and lobby they also have amazing details outside. In this post(if you couldn’t tell by the title) we will be writing about the amazing pools and poolside experiences at the Disney Aulani. Located in between the two towering guest towers is Waikalohe Valley, the name of the pool.
The first of the cool experiences is Volcanic Vertical, an indoor body water slide, located in the main pool area.
In the Makai preserve guests can meet with stingrays under the guidance of marine biologists. This experience donates all of it’s profits towards Hawaiian conservation research.
Similar to the swimming with the fish experience at Typhoon Lagoon in Disney World, in Rainbow Reef you can swim with Angel Fish, Sting Rays, and Butterfly fish. This experience does require an extra fee. As the sign below says the water is very cold in the lagoon.
Throughout the resort there are hidden carved animals and Menehune(spirits thought to cause events in Hawaii). The characters tell the story of Hawaii and add to the overall feeling of the Disney Aulani.
The Wailana pool is a quiet pool with a multiple spas/hot tubs.
Disney has strategically placed Disney characters throughout the pool area to entertain guests, without disrupting the tranquility of the pool.
As you can see there are many different outdoor experiences at the Disney Aulani and they fit in with the whole family.
I don’t usually post about celebrity sightings in Disney Parks, unless it connects to current events, and this does. Larry the Cable Guy was given a tour of Carsland and along the way posed with the ‘Cars’ character he voices, Mater.
