Disney has hit the final stretch, in a month and a half Disney will reopen California Adventure. When those gates open Team Disney Anaheim wants the park to be the best it can be.
Disney recently announced that The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure will close in the next week for a short refurbishment to polish up some of the pieces that fans had been disappointed in.
While very happy to finally have a dark ride based on the Little Mermaid, most fans noticed some pieces of the attraction, that weren’t satisfactory. Not only did fans notice these “glitches,” John Lasseter, Creative adviser for Imagineering noticed it.
The multiple small changes made in the attraction are in the Under the Sea scene, the animation in the transformation room, and the amount of bubbles in the descent under the sea.
The most complained about piece in the attraction is Ariel’s hair in the Under the Sea scene, even though the animatronic stays very true to the original movie.
The only place in the attraction that the hair is getting “fixed” is in the Under the Sea scene, and her character won’t be touched in other places.
The use of computer animation to portray a hand drawn character has infuriated park guests, myself included, because it doesn’t stay true to the character.
Another tweak that John Lasseter requested was the addition of more bubble machines, and additional projectors to make the dive “under the sea” more magical and realistic.
When the similar attraction opens in Disney World next year, it will have the same changes.
Kevin Rafferty Jr. of media relations at the Disneyland Resort also released the following statement.
Ariel will receive a new, floating hairdo in the “Under the Sea” scene, and two instances of computer-generated animation in the descent and ascent scenes of the attraction will be replaced with animation sequences from Walt Disney Animation Studios, depicting Ariel as guests remember seeing her in the motion picture – the way they know and love her. With every new attraction, we listen to guest feedback and are always looking at the best ways to tell a great story.
Are you excited for the changes to the Little Mermaid attraction? Do you agree with the changes being made?
A couple of days ago @daerangul shared on Twitter the following Tweet.
seriously: The Avengers best superhero movie since spiderman 2
After reading that Tweet, I knew that I had to have @daerangul write a review of the new movie, so that our readers could know whether or not to see the new movie. You could probably almost guess what @daerangul’s review said, but I did say almost.
A couple of days ago I went to see the Avengers. This movie continues where Captain America, Thor and Iron Man 2 ended. I would say that seeing Thor and Captain America before seeing this movie is a smart thing as parts of the story were first seen in these two movies (like the introduction of Loki and the cube). The film does a good job on telling the audience the yet untold history of Black Widow and why she does what she does. She is very well played and even fools the audience one or two times. The Hulk and Hawkeye don’t get that much story told but who doesn’t know who the Hulk is? It takes some time before we get to see the Hulk but when he does, he steals the spotlight. With all these heroes joining together there is some conflict which is good for some great action and fun. When they finally get their act together the action only gets better. It’s action non stop and never gets boring of messy. The movie gives each hero it’s spotlight on the screen without making it to much to fast (which I thought Transformers suffers from). After the credits there is a hint what is to come and gives true Marvel fans a final nerdgasm.
Thank you Danny. Will you go see the movie? Are you excited to see all of the “Avengers” together in a movie for the first time?
Over the past weekend Disney and Marvel’s The Avengers has pulled in $178 million dollars, in 39 international markets. The Avengers witch arrives in the U.S. next weekend beat box office records for multiple countries, and came in second place for the most amount of money that a superhero film has made. It placed after Spider Man 2007?s Spider-Man 3, which pulled in $554 million overseas, not to say that The Avengers doesn’t have a chance.
Earlier today Disney released a look at their Star Wars Weekends merchandise lineup. Along with showing off a new line of Star Wars merchandise, Disney also revealed that they would be building a massive shopping location” that will just carry Star Wars merchandise. This new shop will be called “Darth’s Mall.”
Above are the designs that will be featured on T-Shirts, and prints.
Above is an assortment of Star Wars items that have been Disney-fied. I really like the two Vinylmations, the pins, and the lanyard. Maria Clapsis designed all of the six new Vinylmation figures for Star Wars weekends, they are sure to sell out fast.
There is a beach towel makes you look like a Jedi knight when you wear it, and also an Iphone case that has a release size of 1,999.
Disney knows that their guests need to carry all the great merchandise that they carry, so they created a bag, that has a sleeve to carry a poster, and fits in with the other merchandise. I really like all the buttons that are for sale this year. I can’t wait to have my own name tag, this name tag is similar to the ones released in Disneyland during the 50th anniversary.
Also coming this year are some great shirts for Star Wars fans.
What do you think of all this merchandise? Will you be attending Star Wars weekends? What merchandise is your favorite?

In celebration of National Park Week, the National Park Foundation – the official charity of America’s national parks – today received a $500,000 grant from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to help connect kids and families to nature through America’s national parks. Disney’s investment will go specifically to the National Park Foundation’s “Ticket to Ride” and “America’s Best Idea” programs, which will help kids explore the outdoors by providing transportation to and supporting community projects at national parks around the country.
“We realize that funding for transportation is one of the greatest barriers preventing children from experiencing a national park field trip,” said Neil Mulholland, president and CEO of the National Park Foundation. “Disney’s support has helped make it possible for us to engage thousands of young people in life changing park experiences, and ultimately inspiring the next generation of park enthusiasts.”
The National Park Foundation launched “Ticket To Ride” earlier this year. Disney is the first corporate partner to join in the program’s mission, allowing tens of thousands of young people to experience America’s national parks this spring. The company’s grant also supports the National Park Foundation’s “America’s Best Idea” program, which connects diverse, underserved and under-engaged populations throughout the country with their national parks through innovative and meaningful experiences.
In addition to the grant, Disney’s Friends for Change – a program that inspires kids and families to make a positive impact on their world by helping people and the planet – developed a public service announcement (PSA) that will launch during National Parks Week and air on Disney Channel and Disney Online. The spot features Disney Channel star Caroline Sunshine (“Shake it Up”) and encourages kids and families to explore the outdoors, whether at a local, state, or national park. Disney Friends for Change also created an online action kit that helps families plan a park visit in four easy steps and provides ideas on park activities ranging from hikes to wildlife exploration.
“The more kids are exposed to the great outdoors, the more they appreciate and understand the beauty and value of our natural resources, from our national parks to our own backyards,” said Leslie Goodman, senior vice president of Disney Corporate Citizenship. “Disney is proud to work in collaboration with National Park Foundation to make a park experience possible for tens of thousands of young people. We hope that these outdoor adventures inspire lifelong conservation values.”

Disney has announced that Phineas and Ferb will be hosting the new version of the Magic, Memories, and You. I am so happy that Disney is adding Phineas and Ferb as the hosts, because then it will bring in story to the show, something that it desperately needs. The Disney Channel stars Phineas and Ferb will help park guests kick off a rockin’ summer celebration that visits the beach, the jungle and under the sea with favorite Disney characters and cherished Disney music.
With this new addition to the Magic, Memories, and You, the show may slightly turn to become similar to “Disney Dreams,” witch would be a good thing. It seems that Phineas an Ferb are popping up everywhere. What do you think?
Recently the Disney Animation Research Society let slip on Facebook that a new hand drawn animated film would be released, while wishing Ron Clements a happy birthday. Happy Birthday Ron!
In the note they wrote.
On this 25th of April, we wish Artist-Writer-Director Ron Clements a Happy Birthday! Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Ron joined Disney Animation as an apprentice to Frank Thomas (one of the Nine Old Men of Disney Animation) and made his feature debut as an Animator on THE RESCUERS.
Joining John Musker, Ron and John (as they’re known at the Studio) have co-directed THE GREAT MOUSE DETECTIVE, THE LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, HERCULES, TREASURE PLANET, and PRINCESS AND THE FROG. Ron and John are currently working to develop the next hand-drawn feature at Disney Animation. (Sorry, we can’t tell you what that is.)
We knew that Ron was working on a new film, but nothing like this. Disney had originally announced that Princess and the Frog would be the last Disney movie. Also Disney didn’t announce anything at Cinema Con.
During Cinema Con a conference in Las Vegas, Disney released news about three new movies, a sequel, and more information on projects that were already announced.
While Disney did talk about “Monsters, Inc.” called “Monsters University,” “Frankenweenie” and “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” along with in person presentations by their director, the real excitement came later.
Recently Disney confirmed that a sequel was in the works for the Muppets, simply titled the “Muppets 2.” A title poster was revealed on stage, and Kermit and Ms. Piggy came on to make the announcement.
After the Muppets announcement Disney continued on to talk about the Pixar world. The biggest announcement was that Pixar director Lee Unkrich would be working on a film celebrating Dia de Los Muertos. I personally think that it will be very interesting to see Pixar animate a day of the dead film.
Disney also named the nameless dinosaur movie that was first announced at the D23 Expo. The name of the new movie is “The Good Dinosaur,” and Disney released the following synopsis.
What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? This hilarious, heartfelt and original tale is directed by Bob Peterson (co-director/writer, “Up;” writer, “Finding Nemo”) and produced by John Walker (“The Incredibles,” “The Iron Giant”).
Disney also elaborated more on the movie about the journey into the mind, releasing the below synopsis.
Pixar takes audiences on incredible journeys into extraordinary worlds: from the darkest depths of the ocean to the top of the tepui mountains in South America; from the fictional metropolis of Monstropolis to a futuristic fantasy of outer space. From director Pete Docter (“Up,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and producer Jonas Rivera (“Up”), the inventive new film will take you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind.
Disney also announced that Jack White of the band the White Stripes, would be writing the score for the new movie the Lone Ranger. This new movie will be his first film score.
What do you think of these new movies? Which do you want to see the most?
Disney has released new footage from Brave, showcase some more of the humor from Brave.
Disney has also released new merchandise for the Disney store, and disneystore.com. Disney also knows that you want to come to the movie dressed as Merida, so they have costumes, and wigs, to let you become the Scottish princess.

The Tree of Life in Disney’s Animal Kingdom had lost a limb, and that It’s Tough to Be a Bug attraction and Tree of Life walkways are closed until further notice. As an extreme thunder storm hit Orlando last night, many believe that cracks were made worse by the extreme rain.As the Tree of Life isn’t a reel tree, but an upside down oil rig, Disney hopes that the damage wasn’t structural. While the limb was only small, all areas surrounding the tree are closed for the time being.
Here is the official Q and A from Disney.
Q. I heard one of the branches from the Tree of Life fell. Is this why the area is closed to Guests? Yes, a small branch (weighing approximately five pounds) fell to the ground, away from Guests and Cast. In an abundance of caution, we are closing some experiences in the immediate vicinity of the Tree of Life as we further inspect it and complete any necessary maintenance.
Q. What caused the branch to fall? Was it weather related?
We are still reviewing the situation.
Q. What exactly will be closed while we inspect The Tree of Life? The trails around the Tree of Life will be temporarily closed, as well as the “It’s Tough to be a Bug” attraction and the Kid’s Discovery Club location.
Q. When will the experiences around the Tree of Life reopen? At this time we do not have a reopening date.
This morning Disney announced that they would finally be adding six Starbucks locations into the Disney Parks.
All of the US. parks will recieve Starbucks locations, the first time that park guests will be able to taste that familiar coffee in park is when the first location opens in Disney’s California Adventure.
Disney has promised that each location will stay true to the theme of the land, and that the new Disney’s California Adventure location would be Spanish themed. That first store will open on Buena Vista Street inside an existing shop, Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café and will stick to the 1920s theme of Buena Vista Street. The Spanish theme of the restaurant will have baristas donning 1920s-inspired costumes. While the location won’t be recognizable as a Starbucks location, the shop will have their logo on the door. While Disney has only said that it opens in “June” it is very likely that they will open it the same day that Buena Vista Street opens, June 15th.
“We know food and beverage offerings are an important part of the memories our guests make at Disney Parks and now they will be able to enjoy their favorite Starbucks beverage as part of their experience,” said Maribeth Bisienere, vice president, food and beverage line of business for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “Many of our guests have shared their passion for Starbucks with us, and we look forward to making their feedback a reality as we debut the first location at Disney California Adventure.”
While other parks that will have a Starbucks have been announced(Disneyland park, Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom), the locations in those parks haven’t been announced.
“Starbucks and Disney have many things in common,” said Arthur Rubinfeld, president, Global Development, for Starbucks. “We share a passion for providing excellent customer service, delivering high quality in everything we do, and ensuring that every experience with our brand exceeds our customers’ expectations. This is something our customers and partners (employees) have asked for through MyStarbucksIdea.com since the site launched more than four years ago, so we are pleased to bring this idea to life.”
While the concept of Starbucks in Disney Parks are new to the U.S., the french have had a succesful Starbucks in Disney Village since 2009. What do you think of the new Starbucks? Is it a lot of fuss over nothing?

This morning Rich Ross head of Disney Studios stepped down from his position. Before working in the studios side of Disney Ross worked for TV and head some great successes, but he never had those same successes in the studios side of the company. Many believe that Rich Ross stepped down because of his failure with ‘John Carter.’
He wrote one final letter to staff:
For the last 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work with incredibly talented people on behalf of the world’s best loved brand. During that time, we’ve told some amazing stories around the world, created successful TV programming, movies, and franchises that generated new opportunities for the company in the process.
I’ve always said our success is created and driven by our people – whom I consider to be the absolute best in the business. But, the best people need to be in the right jobs, in roles they are passionate about, doing work that leverages the full range of their abilities. It’s one of the leadership lessons I’ve learned during my career, and it’s something I’ve been giving a great deal of thought to as I look at the challenges and opportunities ahead.
I believe in this extraordinary Walt Disney Studios team, and I believe in our strong slate of films and our ability to make and market them better than anyone else. But, I no longer believe the Chairman role is the right professional fit for me. For that reason, I have made the very difficult decision to step down as Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, effective today.
It has been my honor to work with such incredible teams – at Disney Channels Worldwide and The Walt Disney Studios and the many other Disney businesses I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with. I know I leave the Studios in good hands and, even on separate paths, I am confident we are all destined for continued success.
Then CEO Bob Iger wrote a memo about Rich’s retirement.
For more than a decade, Rich Ross’s creative instincts, business acumen and personal integrity have driven results in key businesses for Disney, redefining success in kids and family entertainment and launching franchises that generate value across our entire company. His vision and leadership opened doors for Disney around the world, making our brand part of daily life for millions of people. I appreciate his countless contributions throughout his entire career at Disney, and expect he will have tremendous success in whatever he chooses to do next.
Disney has announced Spoonful.com their new site where they will provide craft ideas, imagination exercises and things to do. Disney calls it a “one-stop idea shop filled with thousands of inspired ideas that bring a little magic into the everyday.’
Spoonful.com is also on Twitter @spoonful_com. Disney has given no word on when this new site will open, but we will keep you posted if you sign up for our newsletter below, and keep reading DisneyDose.com.
Disney has announced that they will be making a new movie based off of the ‘Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride.’ This new film will be a mixture of CG and live action, as the complete story of Mr. Toad is told.
This new film is being directed by Pete Candeland, the director behind videos, and iconic advertisements. The new feature is being produced by ‘Tron: Legacy’ producer Justin Springer. Disney is still looking for a writer to bring this story to life.
‘Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride’ was an attraction on both coasts at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland. But when Disney decided they needed a more relevant character in the Magic Kingdom, ‘The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.’ ‘Mr. Toad’s Wild’ is still open in Disneyland and if this movie is made then it will probably stay that way.
Do you think that Disney would ever bring back ‘Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride’ to the Magic Kingdom? What do you think of this movie idea?
Disney has announced that they will be working with DMG Entertainment of Beijing to distribute the upcoming ‘Iron Man 3.’
The stars of the previous two films, Robert Downey, Jr., Gwynneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, will return to work on the third movie, but the new film will be directed by Shane Black unlike the first two movies which were directed by two installments which were Jon Favreau.
Filming will begin in May, and in China late in the Summer; the movie is said to come out in May 2013.
The LA Times discusses why Disney chose to partner with the Chinese firm rather than distributing it themselves. They discussed how foreign films have a harder time getting into the country, because of censorship and movie caps. But, because Disney will be filming in China they are already allowed in, promising a large release gross.
Disney released the new ‘Wreck it Ralph’ this morning. After a big marketing push in Febuary Disney hasn’t released any new concept art or posters for ‘Wreck it Ralph.’ But their are rumors that the new film’s trailer will be released before the The Avengers.
